walks away!
How do we do this? Well, the AGS immediately comes
to mind! You see, the AGS was developed: “…to promote
the safety and quality of glovebox systems; promote
communication; and disseminate knowledge in the field of
glovebox technology.”
The AGS conference is a place where we can come
together to do three things: listen, learn, and improve. If you
look at the AGS home webpage, it states the following:
The art of glovebox technology is advanced through
the AGS by dissemination of information. The Society
accomplishes this in a variety of ways, including organizing
an annual technical conference and equipment exhibition;
publishing a quarterly newsletter, The Enclosure; and
generating guidelines.
We will have some great presentations this year about this
topic, including talks from our friends from the UK working
on the ARC Programme from Sellafield. Titles include -
Engineering & Safety Case Workstream Knowledge Transfer
Progress Update, and The UK Approach to Producing
National Glove Box Guides, to name a couple. Knowledge
capture and transfer is truly one of the most important
challenges throughout the industry.
Another way to learn about the challenges in the glovebox
industry is to join the Standards Development Committee
(SDC). The purpose of the SDC is to develop documents
to guide designers, fabricators, and users for standard and
consistent design, fabrication, and operation of gloveboxes,
while minimizing the costs involved.
